Frequently Asked Questions

What is “Christian Based” counseling?

Christian based counseling integrates our Christian faith with psychological principles to address common problems of everyday living. The psychological approaches we use respect the teachings of the Bible.  We respect the religious beliefs of our clients and do not impose our beliefs on our clients.

What is considered 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

24 hours is determined by your appointment time. (If your appointment is at 9:00 am on Tuesday, it needs to be cancelled by 9:00 am on Monday.) Monday appointments should be cancelled on Friday before 12:00 noon with the office staff. In the case of a holiday, one business day prior to the holiday closing is required for all appointments scheduled on the day following the holiday.

Why does LHCC charge for late cancellations and missed appointments?

Your session date and time are requested by you. Your therapist has set aside that time for you and you only. A client who needs to be seen missed an opportunity to be seen if you don’t cancel. Your therapist will need to know the reason for the late cancellation or missed appointment in order to determine possible fees.

What is required to schedule an initial appointment?

You will need to have your health insurance card available when you call.

For clients under the age of 18, the parent or legal guardian will be required to schedule and attend the initial appointment. Clients over the age of 18 are required to speak with the office staff to schedule their appointment.

Who needs to attend the initial appointment for a client under the age of 18?

A parent or legal guardian should attend the session.

What paperwork and information is required at the initial visit?
  • Age appropriate paperwork (You can download all age appropriate forms from our website and sign at the office)
  • Valid Driver’s License or Picture ID of client and/or parent or legal guardian
  • Valid Proof of Insurance
  • Guardianship papers (if applicable)
  • Co-Payment or Deductible
  • Names and contact information of all contacts you may need your therapist to have authorization for communication or records
  • School or Dr. reports related to your visit
  • Plan to be 30 minutes early for your appointment time. All paperwork is required to be completed before your session starts.
What is considered legal age for clients?

18 years of age.

What if I’m a parent of a “legal age” client and carry the insurance coverage but my child hasn’t signed a release of information for me?

Then no information would be provided to you. However, that is very rare.

What if we are in couple counseling and have to late cancel because one of us can not keep the appointment?

Generally, one member of the couple should plan to attend the session to avoid charges. Reasons for a late cancellation or missed appointment are reviewed by your therapist to determine any late cancellation fees.

Why did I not receive a confirmation call from your office?

Confirmation calls are attempted as a courtesy to our clients, time permitting, to a single phone number given by you. In the case of an emergency, we will attempt to reach a client at all approved numbers on file. Please keep our office updated on any changes in contact information.

How many sessions are required for treatment and how long are the sessions?

Most sessions are 45-50 minutes and are scheduled weekly. The length of treatment is determined by you and your therapist based on your individual needs.

Are there fees for a subpoena or court order?

Yes. These fees are due upon request by your therapist. Please speak with your therapist regarding pending legal actions that may require his/her professional services.

Is there a Psychiatrist on staff at Lighthouse Counseling Center?

No. Our therapist are Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Psychologists. Our staff can not prescribe medications. Medications should be managed by your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. We will be glad to refer you to a psychiatrist.
